Events:
3/20/42: Keel laid as SEA HOUND (II).
12/19/42: Launched.
2/28/43: Taken over by the US Navy for completion as a transport
(AP 86), but completed as an attack transport (APA 41).
1/45: Under command of Capt. George W. Wauchope, former Superintendent of the
Maritime Service School at Sheepshead Bay, this vessel was attacked by Kamikaze,
wounding 157 and killing 35. The resulting fire was extinguished in 17 minutes.
The ship was awarded 6 battle stars for its WWII service.
